| Who is Rob Nickel? |
Rob is a former 14-year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police . In February 2003 he retired at the Rank of Detective Sergeant from the OPP Child Pornography Section . Rob is globally recognized as an expert in the field of undercover investigations as they relate to the Internet.
Rob spent his first 7 years with the OPP at Simcoe Detachment, his last 4 years at that detachment he worked with the Criminal Investigations Unit as a Plain Clothes Detective.
Rob then spent 4 years in the Child Pornography Section of the OPP as a Detective Constable. During these 4 years he worked in an Undercover Capacity dealing with child pornography investigations. These investigations included face to face meetings with Pedophiles in an undercover capacity as well as working undercover online. Rob was then promoted to the Rank of Detective Sergeant and during these 3 years continued online undercover work as well as lectured and trained officers throughout Canada and the World on Online Undercover Techniques. Rob has lectured in numerous provinces throughout Canada, as well France, Spain, Belgium and Brazil.
Rob is recognized in Canadian Courts as an expert in Online Undercover Investigations, Workings of the Internet, in relations to Criminal Offences and the Identification of Child Pornography. For 2 years Rob was the Secretary of the Internet Specialists Group, which was a Sub-Committee of the Interpol Crimes Against Children Specialists Group which met Bi-annually for conferences.
Rob now lectures to students and parents on internet safety, as well as produces interactive material to help parents understand the computer age and internet safety as it relates to their children's lives. Rob gives a different perspective on Internet Safety by using examples from past investigations. His understanding of the criminal mind used on the internet gives students and parents the upper hand in protecting themselves online. Although the subject of Internet Safety is a serious one, Rob manages to use humor throughout his presentation that leaves the audience with a better understanding of Internet Safety and a lasting impression.
Rob is a member of Grand River Toastmasters and became one of nine finalists in the World Championship of Public Speaking in Reno Nevada in 2004 beating out 30,000 Toastmasters who competed that year. Rob also enjoys competing in Triathlons and training year round for these events. Rob is President of Nickel Concepts which is a multimedia and web design company specializing in getting small to medium size companies noticed. Rob is President of Kid Innovation Canada (a division of Nickel Concepts) which distributes RAZZUL software throughout Canada. RAZZUL is a software package for Windows XP, that provides kid-friendly online computing giving children ages 3 to 12 the flexibility to securely and safely surf the web, play games, or send and receive spam free e-mails while locking down access to the remainder of the computer. Rob is also an inspirational speaker who speaks to companies and organizations throughout North America.
Rob is also a member of the Business & Education Partnership of Waterloo Region Speakers Bureau which is a resource to assist students with their career exploration through first-hand interaction with volunteers from a variety of occupations and sectors. The Speaker Bureau uses Rob to interact with the children, and teach them how to stay safe while online.
Rob is married, and lives with his wife and two daughters in Cambridge Ontario.
